I arrived in Ecuador at 1:15am on the 5th of August 2009. The bus trip was pretty crappy, but I've got high hopes for what I'll see here. My first place to visit was Montanita, purely to kill time until I got my flight to the Galapagos islands - the main reason I came to Ecuador! Also hoping to visit the equator latitude line.

quito - Mitad del Mundo

On August 17th, I boarded a flight at San Cristobal airport, and headed for Quito, where I would be spending one and a half days. There aren't really many things I wanted to see in Quito, so I figured a day and a half would be ennough. Also, I'm meeting Tav in Bogota on the 19th, so I needed to move a bit quicker. I had enough time to see the 2 things I came here for - the Basilica and the Mitad del Mundo (qhere the equatorial line is) more >>

san cristobal - sea lions, night dives and a bit of surf

On Thursday the 13th of August at 2pm I boarded a boat for San Cristobal on the Galapagos archeapalego. The main aim of San Cristobal was to have another crack at fiving with the hammerheads and getting in a good few surf sessions, as this island is meant to have the best surf. As usual, leaving Sanata Cruz ( the busiest of the islands) was a real pain in the more >>

isabella - snorkelling and chilling

At 2pm on the 11th of August I boarded a boat for Isla Isabella - meant to be one of the more "wild" islands. People had told me that the snorkelling and the surf out there would be pretty good. They were right about the snorkelling but unfortunately they were wrong about the surf - well, not wrong, just that there was no more >>

waiting on photos    (submitted on 16 August 2009 18:35)

It's been a while since I've written anything on here because I've been pretty busy and most of the stories I have are dive related and I'm still waiting for the photos from the disposable cameras to be developed, so as soon as that's done I'll update the blog. Latest news though is that I had a terrible session this afternoon. Went out with some kiwis and we all got pummelled pretty bad on the reef when we were leaving. more >>

another awesome day on the galapagos

This morning, the 10th of August, I got picked up at 5am to board a boat to Bartolome, one of the islands 3 hours away from Santa Cruz. The plan for the day was to visit the volcanic island and see a few dry lava streams, followed by snorkeling in the torquoise waters surrounding the island. At $115 for the day I had high expectations, and Bartolome didn't fail to more >>

surfing playa tortuga - santa cruz - galapagos    (submitted on 9 August 2009 19:52)

This morning, the 9th of August I decided to go out for my first surf session on these beautiful islands. The walk out to Playa Tortugas is about 45 minutes, so while walking out there I was really hoping I wouldn't get disappointed by unfavourable winds and swell. more >>

galapagos - santa cruz day 1 and 2 - chilling and diving

On the 7th of August, I finally flew into the Galapagos Island, and more specifically Santa Cruz Islan, the main island of the group. Main aim: dive with hammerhead sharks, snorkel with sea lions and turtles at Baya Tortuga, and surf with sea lions also at Baya Tortuga, before heading off to another island called San more >>

montanita and guayaquil

After saying goodbye to everybody at Mancora in Peru, on the 4th of August, I boarded a bus to Ecuador - main aim here, to see the Galapagos. After an 8 hour trip through the night on a really shitty bus, and having to get off the bus 3 times because of border conrols, I arrived in more >>
